IPTA Mumbai’s Music Choir has been an integral part of the group since its inception in 1942-43. Nationalist songs, songs of the masses, songs by people’s poets – these have been the ‘staple’ of the choir’s repertoire. Almost all major IPTA units across India have well established music choirs who sing in their regional languages.
The IPTA Choir regularly performs at theatre festivals, music festivals, dharnas, agitations, cultural events, etc.
Over the years the music group of IPTA has had stalwarts like Ravi Shankar, Kanu Ghosh, Salil Choudhary, Prem Dhawan
The present choir is led my Music Director Kuldip Singh. In the past 2 decades the choir has had singers like Murlidhar, Aroon Bakshi, Kailash Kher, Jaswinder Singh, Durga Jasraj among many others.
In 2006 the IPTA Choir brought alive the songs of Prithvi Theatres during the centenary celebrations of Shri Prithviraj Kapoor as part of the Prithvi Theatre Festival 2006. |
