IPTA – Indian People’s Theatre Association is the oldest theatre organisation in India. Since its inception in 1942, IPTA has been a vital part of the Indian Theatre Movement and has made unparalleled contributions to theatre across India and in diverse cultures and languages. Its progressive ideology has motivated its workers to use theatre for the education, entertainment and inspiration of the people in the hope of achieving a finer sensibility in each citizen. IPTA has and shall continue to express the realities of its times through theatre and use it as an instrument towards the establishment of a fair and just society.
Jan-natyotsav 2007 is a theatre festival of IPTA Mumbai’s Hindi plays and presented in collaboration with the Bhavan’s Cultural Centre, Andheri.
IPTA and BCCA have been working on collaborative programmes for the last 2 years and now bring to the audiences of the western suburbs an 8 day festival of current and popular plays.
The festival will feature seven plays from IPTA Mumbai’s repertoire and will also have film screenings, open air performances, musical performances, exhibition on theatre, etc.
The plays shall be staged at the Sardar Patel Sabhagriha, Bhavans Campus, Andheri West. Entry is open to the public. Passes may be collected on first cum first served basis from the BCCA office at Andheri West (Ph: 66970066 / 65280107).

BCCA has been actively promoting the performing arts over the past three years .It has gained wide popularity and recognition in the suburbs of Mumbai. The activities have included drama, musical performances, poetry readings, film screenings and other cultural programmes. The overwhelming participation and response of the local community has made the BCCA a popular venue for the performing arts.

IPTA Mumbai has been an active part of the theatre movement in the country for over six decades (since 1942) having staged over 100 plays in different languages, including Aakhri Shama, Sufaid Kundali, Bakri, Africa Jawan Pareshan, Ek Aur Dronacharya, Hori, Lok Katha, Moteram Ka Satyagrah and Shatranj Ke Mohre among many other landmark productions. To promote young talent IPTA has been organising an Inter Collegiate Drama Competition in memory of Prithviraj Kapoor since 1972. IPTA Balmanch, its children’s theatre wing conducts workshops as well as stages plays for young audiences. |
